Comparison of the development of the Czech and Polish ballet scene in the years 1945 - 1970

This dissertation delves into the fascinating world of ballet, one of the most expressive and fantastic artistic disciplines. Its primary focus is to analyse and compare the development of the Czech and Polish ballet scene between 1945 and 1970 in order to shed light on certain key phases and issues, such as the emancipation and recognition of ballet as a specific artistic discipline. The dissertation also focuses on the career paths of ballet dancers, examining the advantages and disadvantages associated with this career, including financial reward. The structure of the thesis is divided into seven key chapters (source evaluation, methodological section, five thematic chapters), supplemented by an introduction, conclusion, lists and appendices. The first chapter focuses on significant changes in the interwar period, which are considered essential for understanding the development of the post-war ballet scene in Czechoslovakia and Poland. The chapter also focuses on the personalities whose legacy influenced subsequent generations of ballet artists. Two dramaturgical lines of Czech play on the small stage of the theater "Divadlo na Vinohradech"

This thesis deals with two dramaturgical lines of Czech play on the small stage of the theater "Divadlo na Vinohradech". It aims to verify whether or not and, if so, how has the text of contemporary drama changed in comparison to the dramatic text of the period from the 1960s to the 1980s. The thesis does so on a sample of eleven plays put on under the current artistic management of the theatre (i.e. since the theatre season 2012/2013). The first part of the thesis focuses on the theoretical characterization of dramas typical for both of these observed periods and on the development of dramaturgy of the theater in relation to Czech drama. The second part of the thesis contains the analyses and the final comparison of dramatic texts. Representational Roleplay in a Virtual World: Applying Dramaturgical Analysis to World of Warcraft

This thesis explores the possibilities of applying dramaturgical analysis to the virtual world of the computer game World of Warcraft. In this virtual world, some players engage in so-called representational roleplay. This is a complex social activity that entails a number of specific rules and practices. The aim of this thesis was to test the applicability of four different dramaturgical concepts (character, regions, scene, and exhibition) to actors' performances in the virtual world. The findings of this thesis are based on several months of ethnographic research and 16 semi-structured interviews. Analysis of these data revealed a number of similarities and a high degree of applicability of dramaturgical sociology to representational roleplay in the virtual world of World of Warcraft. The various dramaturgical metaphors were further extended to include new concepts in the context of the virtual world. These include the "character flaw" which consists of rejecting the consequences of fateful moments, "always IC" roleplayers who ignore the existence of a back region, the "immersive march" which describes the dramatic transitions between scenes, and the "exhibition with a passive curator" which reflects the distinctiveness of the curator in the virtual world.
Changes of documentary films distribution at local cinemas in digital age

(in English): This thesis deals, in frame of new film history, with the changes in Czech film distribution system connected to cinema digitalisation in the Czech Republic. Generally, the paper focuses on the influence the technological changes have on film distribution and its development in the Czech Republic. Considering the recent emergence of new genres and types of films, the work examines, on the example of documentaries, what effect these changes have on the variety of the Czech digital cinemas programme offer. The case study contained in the thesis explores a process of creating film programme in cinemas of average size Czech cities which do not have to compete with multiplexes. Selected programmers of these cinemas were interviewed in semi-structured interviews in terms of qualitative research, with the aim to determine the decisive factors influencing programming of documentary films in these cinemas. As seen from this thesis, the range of films in the distribution circuit has extended in two ways after the emergence of digitalisation and this development considerably affected the work of cinema programmers. Moreover, this work is intended to show how directors at La Comedie-Française and Realistické Divadlo put the comedy on the stage guided by their personal perception of the original text or translation and to what extent they follow the rules of classicism. The National Theatre in Prague during the Nazi Occupation: The Foremost Theatre Scene between Oppression and Resistance. (A Historical-sociological Analysis) ABSTRACT The submitted dissertation, based on historical-sociological analysis, describes and explains the status, reaction and functionality of the National Theatre in Prague during the hardest times of our modern history - the occupation of the Czech lands by Nazi Germany, the so-called Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia (1939-1945), the era when the National Theatre, as the top cultural institution, consolidated its artistry, its permanent values and interpretation efforts of its ensemble to defend the right of our society to preserve its own culture, its own existence. The principal objective of this work is to analyze methods and techniques by means of which the National Theatre in Prague, in line with its audience, steadily faced critical situations caused by the Nazi occupation. Personality of Karel Kraus

This thesis is dealing with the work of the dramaturge, translator and the theatre theorist Karel Kraus (1920 - 2014). The activity of this author is presented gradually with an accent on the chronology and domains of his production, as well as on the most significant subjects in his works. The main purpose of this thesis is to characterize and summarize Kraus's work as a whole unit. And there are primary sources (writings of Kraus) which are used to accomplish this intention. While the unit of Kraus's works is described step by step, we are also getting familiarized with his way of writing and his attitude. The thesis is extended of a supplement which consists of the bibliography of the essays and articles by Karel Kraus in the period from 2000 to 2014.
International Music Festival Prague Spring in post-World War Czechoslovakia: Festival reception in the journals Tempo and Hudební rozhledy between 1946-1948

This thesis discusses the first three years of the International Music Festival Prague Spring, as reflected in the articles from the musical journals Tempo and Hudební rozhledy. According to the analysis of these articles this thesis follows up the development of the festival dramaturgy and organization between years 1946 and 1948 in the connections with the development of the politics and the cultural politics in the post-World War Czechoslovakia as the basic elements of festivals orientation in the next decades. In addition to that the thesis is devoted to the question of the existence and availability of sources and literature related to the theme of Prague Spring Music Festival.
